Junior guard Rashad Madden has emerged as the Razorbacks’ starting
point guard and one of Arkansas’ top scoring threats through 11 games this
season.
Coming out of East Poinsett County High School, Madden was a
four-star recruit and had offers from basketball powers such as Florida,
Georgetown, Kentucky, Marquette and Memphis. Instead, he decided to stay home
and play at Arkansas.
After being suspended for the Razorbacks’ two exhibition games and
season-opener, Madden has appeared in the last 10 games, including starting the
last five.
Despite averaging only 6.6 and 4.2 points per game as a freshman
and sophomore, respectively, he is Arkansas’ fourth-leading scorer, averaging
10.4 points per game.
In his five starts this season, he has scored 13.6 points per
game. Madden is also the Razorbacks’ most efficient three-point shooter, making
54.2 percent of his shots behind the arc.
That is a vast improvement over his first two seasons at Arkansas.
As a freshman and sophomore, Madden shot 23.9 and 20 percent behind the
three-point line, respectively.
Along with providing the Razorbacks with a scoring threat at point
guard, Madden is another sharp-shooter that Southeastern Conference teams will
have to worry about.
SEC teams won’t be able to focus on only Anthlon Bell, Michael
Qualls and Kikko Haydar, Arkansas’ other top three-point shooters.
This is the
ninth of a series of short articles about the Arkansas basketball team. Each
day leading up to SEC play, I will post an entry about something basketball related
that starts with the next letter of the alphabet. Here are links to the
previous entries, as well as the dates for the next five…
