TAT: Arkansas Basketball A-Z - Lackadaisical

This article originally appeared on December 25, 2013 on The Arkansas Traveler website, uatrav.com.

Lackadaisical is one of the favorite words for coaches everywhere and at all levels.
For those of you that have never played sports and don’t know what it means, Merriam-Webster defines lackadaisical as an adjective that means “feeling or showing a lack of interest or enthusiasm.”
Coaches typically use it when their teams are having an uninspired practice or playing an opponent they should easily beat.
Through 11 games, the Razorbacks have had a couple of lackadaisical performances.
Despite having the worst RPI in college basketball, Savannah State trailed the Razorbacks by only two points at halftime in its Dec. 12 game at Bud Walton Arena.
The Razorbacks woke up in the second half and beat the Tigers by 29.
A little over a week later, Arkansas had another lackadaisical game, this time against South Alabama at Verizon Arena in Little Rock. The Razorbacks led by just nine points at the half and won by only 12.
Head coach Mike Anderson must make sure Arkansas does not have these type of lackadaisical performances against Southeastern Conference opponents because the Razorbacks might not be able to pull out the win against better competition.
Even the worst teams in the SEC have the ability to pull off an upset if Arkansas does not take the game seriously. South Carolina has a 3-6 record, but beat previously unbeaten Saint Mary’s in Hawaii Sunday.

This is the 12th of a series of short articles about the Arkansas basketball team. Each day leading up to SEC play, I will post an entry about something basketball related that starts with the next letter of the alphabet. Here are links to the previous entries, as well as the dates for the next five…
