TAT: Arkansas Basketball A-Z: JUCO Transfer

This article originally appeared on December 23, 2013 on The Arkansas Traveler website, uatrav.com.

Arkansas has only one junior college transfer on its roster, but he is a key player for the Razorbacks.
Senior forward Coty Clarke spent two seasons at Lawson State Community College in Alabama before coming to Arkansas.
With the Cougars, Clarke notched 40 double-doubles and two triple-doubles. He also became the first player in school history to average a double-double over two seasons, with 12.8 points and 12.1 rebounds per game.
His play at Lawson State CC made Clarke the No. 8 JUCO prospect in the country, according to JucoRecruiting.com.
In his first season with the Razorbacks, Clarke proved to be an important part of the team. He played in all but one game and started the final 13 games, all against Southeastern Conference opponents.
Clarke’s best games came in Arkansas’ home wins over Missouri and Kentucky.
Against the Tigers, Clarke was 3-for-3 behind the arc and finished with 13 points and seven rebounds. Against the Wildcats, he notched his first double-double at Arkansas, with 14 points, 12 rebounds and six assists.
This season, Clarke has again proved that he will be a major contributor with the Razorbacks. Through 11 games, he is tied for the team-lead in rebounds, with 5.6 per game, and second in steals, with 11.
He is also averaging 7.9 points and 1.8 assists in 18 minutes per game.
Clarke’s performance in SEC play will be important, but more than anything, he will provide senior leadership for Arkansas’ pair of 6-foot-10-inch freshmen, Bobby Portis and Moses Kingsley.
