Arkansas has established itself as a sharpshooting team through its first nine games of the season.
The Razorbacks are shooting 47.7 percent from the field and 38.6 percent behind the arc, which is fifth and first in the Southeastern Conference, respectively.
Also, Arkansas is shooting 19 three-pointers per game, which trails only Ole Miss and LSU in the SEC.
When the shots are falling, the Razorbacks are tough to beat. However, in its two losses this season, Arkansas was a combined 13-for-45 behind the arc, which is just 28.9 percent.
During these types of games, a balanced offense is key in order to remain effective. The Razorbacks must have solid inside play from senior Coty Clarke and freshmen Bobby Portis and Moses Kingsley.
So far, over one-quarter of Arkansas’ points have come off of three-point shots. Only one of the previous five national champions have scored that many of its points behind the arc.
If Clarke, Portis and Kingsley develop into scoring threats inside the paint, the Razorbacks can fall back on them during off-shooting games. On top of that, the inside play would open up more outside shots. This is the second of a series of short articles about the Arkansas basketball team. Each day leading up to SEC play, I will post an entry about something basketball related that starts with the next letter of the alphabet. Here's the previous entries, as well as the dates of the next five...
