The Arkansas volleyball team split its Saturday matches, but still won the Golden Hurricane Classic in Tulsa, going 2-1 at the tournament.
The Razorbacks defeated Northern Colorado 3-0 in the first game, before falling to Texas State 3-0 in their last game of the tournament. Their overall record is 6-3.
Game one featured strong performances by junior Meredith Hays and senior Raymariely Santos. Hays collected 12 kills, which led all players, while Santos picked up another double-double, with 17 assists and 15 digs. It was Santos’ fourth double-double of the season.
Arkansas posted a .310 hitting percentage against the Bears, their highest of the season.
After winning the first two sets 25-13 and 25-20, Northern Colorado rallied and tied the third set at 23. Hays and freshman Barbara Dapic then collected two consecutive kills before Santos and sophomore Summer Morgan got the game-winning block.
They won the third set 28-26.
In their final match of the tournament, the Razorbacks lost to Texas State in straight sets, 25-21, 25-18 and 25-22.
Hays had another solid performance, collecting a match-high 17 kills, as well as three digs. During the tournament, she had 50 total kills, bringing her season total to 149, which leads the team. That is 10 more than the next two Razorbacks combined.
Morgan also played well. She picked up 10 total blocks, which is her career-best and tied for the most by a Southeastern Conference player this season. Her 10 blocks helped the Razorbacks out-block the Bobcats 16-10 in the match.
With 12 assists and seven digs, Santos finished the tournament with 55 assists and 33 digs, which averages to a double-double each game.
The Razorbacks return to Fayetteville to finish their nonconference schedule in the Razorback Invitational. They play Kansas State Friday at 7 p.m., then South Alabama and Saint Louis on Saturday, at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
