For the first time in UA history, the Arkansas women’s soccer team is 4-0. The Razorbacks picked up their fourth win of the season by defeating Missouri State 3-0 Sunday.
Arkansas
dominated the entire game, holding the Bears to only three shots in the game.
They picked up their first goal in the 40th minute, when senior Yvonne
DesJarlais scored on an assist by freshman Rachel Riggs.
Senior
Evan Palmer tacked on another goal in the 58th minute, followed by senior
Ashleigh Ellenwood’s team-leading third goal of the season in the 63rd minute.
Ellenwood
also had the assist on Palmer’s goal, while junior Allie Tripp picked up her
team-leading third assist on Ellenwood’s goal.
Ten of
the Razorbacks’ 24 shots were on goal, compared to none by Missouri State.
“It was a
complete team effort tonight. This team is relentless,” head coach Colby Hale
said. “Their work rate is pretty remarkable. Missouri State is a fantastic
defensive team, but overall I thought we were able to create some chances. We
have a lot to work on to reach our potential, but I am pleased with where we
are.”
The
historic 4-0 start is just one of several accomplishments by Hale in his two
seasons at Arkansas. Last year, he led Arkansas to their first Southeastern
Conference tournament since 2000, a school-record six SEC wins and their first
victory over a ranked opponent.
The
Razorbacks return to Fayetteville for a match against Tulsa Wednesday at 7 p.m.
