Bentonville Gold, 20, Bentonville Black, 7
THE GAME: Bentonville Gold running back Destyn Adkins rushed for
119 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries to lead his team.
Black (0-1) got on the board first, with a 68-yard touchdown run
by Jacob Clark in the first quarter, but Adkins answered with 9- and 5-yard
touchdowns in the second quarter.
Gold (1-0) went into the half with a 13-7 lead after it missed
the extra point following Adkins’ second touchdown with 36 seconds remaining.
“(Adkins) has a tremendous work-ethic,” Gold coach Toma Whorton
said. “He worked hard and he trusted his line to give him the holes to run
through.”
Quarterback Canaan Ross added another touchdown in the fourth
quarter on a 10-yard run.
Clark finished with 196 all-purpose yards for Black.
UP NEXT: Gold hosts Siloam Springs next week, while Black
travels to Rogers Heritage. The eighth-grade games start at 6
p.m. with the ninth grade games to follow.
