The
Arkansas women’s tennis team ended the Razorback Classic in Fayetteville with a
pair of wins in doubles play and one in singles play Sunday.
For the
weekend, the Razorbacks were 3-3 in doubles and 4-8 in singles.
Freshman
Shannon Hudson won her first two singles matches and advanced to the U.S. Open
Flight championship, but fell to Auburn’s Reka Muller in straight sets, 7-6
(5), 6-2.
In the
Wimbledon Flight, sophomore Brittany Huxley defeated Auburn’s Ashley Kitchen
Friday, but lost her final two singles matches.
The only
Arkansas athlete to collect a victory in singles play Sunday was sophomore
Flavia Araujo, who beat Kitchen in straight sets.
After the
Razorbacks won only one doubles match in the first two days of competition,
they won both of their doubles matches Sunday.
Araujo
teamed up with Tulsa’s Carol Benito to beat a doubles team from Northwestern
State, while Hudson and Huxley defeated a pair from Auburn.
"We
definitely finished strong in doubles today," head coach Michael Hegarty
said. "It was an excellent tournament overall and we continue to develop
good habits during these critical fall events."
Sophomore
Kristen Mee was the only athlete for Arkansas that failed to pick up a singles
victory in the tournament.
The
Razorbacks return to action Oct. 18 at the ITA Central Regional championships
in Norman, Okla.
