Five-star running back Alex Collins of South Plantation (Fla.)
High signed his National Letter of Intent Thursday afternoon, officially
becoming the 23rd member of the 2013 Arkansas recruiting class.
The day after a National Signing Day full of drama that included
his mother reportedly confiscating his NLI and going into hiding, Collins and
his father signed the paperwork to necessary to become a Razorback.
“Finally over! Finally a Razorback! I’m glad this is over. A lot
of weight is off my shoulders. Happy to be a Hog!” Collins tweeted following
his signing.
Collins is head coach Bret Bielema’s top recruit in his first
signing class at Arkansas. He is ranked the No. 1 running back in the country
by 247Sports.com, as well as No. 3, No. 7 and No. 13 by Scout.com, ESPN.com and
Rivals.com, respectively.
“Alex is a great addition to this class,” Bielema said in a
release from the university. “He has high character and is a student-athlete we
are thrilled to bring into our family.”
After his junior season, Collins was named the Broward County
Player of the Year and he chosen to play in the Simper Fidelis All-American
Bowl following his senior season. He chose the Razorbacks over Miami (Fla.),
Florida, Florida State and Wisconsin.
He joined Booker T. Washington (Fla.) High offensive lineman
Denver Kirkland as the second highly touted recruit from South Florida to sign
with Arkansas.
“We
have coaches on our staff with tremendous relationship in South Florida that
have been crucial for us in this class, and we will continue to establish
Arkansas as a choice for top student-athletes from that area,” Bielema said.
